If one strip club gets its way, it’ll be offering lap dances 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The effort by the Victoria Island based Silver Fox has caused a high-profile controversy, with local residents splurging on the club’s exotic ornaments. Smack in the middle of the city that never sleeps, Silver Fox has become Nigeria’s leading night club and according to it’s innovator, “the idea came about by wanting to be one of the best gentlemen’s club in the world” he stated, “a place that one can come and let loose, be yourself, and let out all your inhibitions in a world class luxurious setting”.

One could call it a strange destination, others call it ideal. As it is one of the only strip clubs located in the business district of Victoria Island, and majority of its clientele are young men and women; couples. Gone are the days of just old men looking to ease their stress at the days end.

Being at the top might sometimes mean you’re facing challenges here and there, depending on your line of business, but for an ingenious idea such as bringing adult entertainment into the ‘metropolis’, one can almost go unscathed. Guess the only challenges would be challenging each other in order to maintain and exceed own expectations. “No major challenges, we just have to maintain our commitment to excellence which is a daily process of giving the customer the ultimate experience at Silver Fox”.

Once upon a time, strip clubs were patronised by businessmen looking for an after-work release and older men looking to get off ogling women who offered the promise of escape from reality. Nowadays, young men live in a culture saturated with sexuality. “we move with the trend and the trends move with us” he says, “strip clubs are a part of hip hop culture and its my objective to change Africa with that same attitude and Silver Fox is doing that”. Its unquestionably more normal for guys these days than it was before.

Is it good or bad that for young men, going to a strip club is the new normal? Id venture that it’s a good thing. A place where they can step outside the anxiety-fraught dating scene, achieve stimulation’s, relaxation, and human touch; these aren’t age dependent and for this reason Silver Fox has stayed relevant in the night life. “It helps to be able to give the captive audience what they want which is quality product and world class customer service”.

We all can agree that the world is a global village now; rather than demonising male desire, we would be better served by admitting that male sexual fantasies are complex and not infrequently incorrect. That Lagosians are able to explore their sexuality safely and con-sensually is progress, not the downfall of the 21^st century male.
